Neighbourhood Healthcare Homes

West End Medical Centre operates as one of Northland’s Neighbourhood Healthcare Homes, a model designed to deliver proactive, coordinated care for enrolled patients. This means your health needs are managed more efficiently, with a focus on early intervention, continuity of care, and better access to your GP, nurse, and allied health team.

Nurse-Led Clinics

Our Whangarei medical centre offers Nurse-Led Clinics, providing specialised care for patients who don’t need a doctor’s consultation. Run by our skilled nursing team under Standing Orders and doctor supervision, the clinics deliver personalised, patient-focused care, from routine check-ups to treatments. Appointments can be booked directly with our nurses, ensuring you get care without delay.

Appointment times

If you arrive early for your appointment, you may still have to wait until your allocated appointment time to be seen. If you arrive late, you may have to wait until the doctor can slot you in or you may have to reschedule to another date.

Lab results

Your doctor or nurse will only contact you if your lab results are unexpectedly abnormal. We will not contact you if your results are normal. You can use your ManageMyHealth™ account to see your results.

Repeat prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions can be requested through the ManageMyHealth™ portal or via our phone script messaging system (call 438 9050), where you can also request urgent prescriptions when needed.

Group sessions and workshops

Our Whangarei medical centre offers workshops and group sessions for the public on a range of health topics, including anxiety, menopause, diabetes, and cardiovascular wellbeing. These sessions provide practical advice, support, and education in a friendly, inclusive environment. Some workshops are available via Zoom, making it easy for you to participate from the comfort of your home.

Frequently asked questions

Who can access the services at West End Medical Centre?

The services we provide are for enrolled patients only. Enrolment ensures your care is coordinated, personalised, and accessible. Please check our homepage or contact reception to see if we are currently accepting new patients.

Appointment times are available by contacting our reception team. Our staff will help you find a time that suits your needs, whether it’s for a standard consultation, a longer appointment, or a procedure.

Repeat prescriptions can be requested through the ManageMyHealth™ portal or via our phone script messaging system (call 438 9050, then follow the prompts). Urgent prescriptions can also be requested through the same system, ensuring you receive your medications when needed.

Our Nurse-Led Clinics allow experienced nurses to see and treat certain common medical conditions, such as sore throats or impetigo, under Standing Orders and the supervision of our GPs.

By expanding the role of nurses, we can offer more daily appointments at a lower cost, helping more patients access timely care. If needed, the nurse can call a GP into the consultation to provide additional support.
