Telephone Triage

When you ring before 8.45am for a same day appointment the receptionist will take down your details and the number you can be contacted on within the next hour. You will be asked the reason for your request which is passed on to the Doctor so they can do some background work before calling you.

Your request will then be passed on to a Doctor (where possible your own Doctor) or sometimes a Nurse and they will call you back to discuss your request. This is a short call to see if you need an appointment that day or to organise a phone consultation later that day. In some cases, you won’t need to leave home as the Doctor may be able to deal with your request over the phone, answer your questions and come up with a management plan.

Patients who have used telephone triage report that it is great as they don’t have to leave home or work to get their needs met. Some have said that it was ideal for them because they were too sick to travel to the practice and were still able to arrange the treatment they required from their Doctor.

Be assured that if you need to see a doctor you will see one at the next available appointment.
